John 18:37
Pilate had heard of Jesus. He had been told of the supposed miracles, the followers He had gathered, and some of His teachings. He was fully aware that Jewish leadership opposed Him and denounced Him as a false prophet and a troublemaker. Some had even reported He claimed to be the King of the Jews. Now, this Jesus stood before him waiting to be judged. In that moment, Pilate turned to Jesus and questioned, “Are you a King?” That same question applies to everyone today: is Jesus the King? Everything about Jesus surrounds that question. It encapsulates His identity, His authority, His authenticity, His ministry, His teachings, and even the salvation He offers. Jesus embraced the truth. He is the King—the promised King who is seated at the right hand of the Father following His death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension. As this great King, He offers salvation to all who receive Him as Lord and Savior.
